Madelyn made a drawing for me on the back porch yesterday afternoon.
I love it for lots of reasons --- most importantly because she created it just for me, but I also love it because it shows how much she has grown over the summer. She's not only writing her letters, but combining them into words. She's drawing shapes and filling a rainbow with the proper colors, in correct order. And perhaps best of all, she's using those newly developed abilities as a gift to someone else. Enough to make any mama proud.
It's funny how these little milestones along the way are always a touch bittersweet. I love seeing her learn and grow and conquer new challenges, but it's also just a bit sad knowing that it's just one more stepping stone on the path that leads away from home.
